Early-morning motel shooting in northwest Charlotte leaves one dead

One person was died after a shooting at a motel in northwest Charlotte early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the Econo Lodge on Glenwood Drive near the I‑85 exit, and the victim was later pronounced dead after being taken to a hospital.

Charlotte‑Mecklenburg Police responded after receiving a report of an assault with a deadly weapon around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived they located a person suffering from gunshot wounds in the motel parking lot. The injured person was transported to a hospital but did not survive.

At this time police have not publicly announced any arrests or identified a motive. The responding agency has not released additional details about potential suspects, the number of people involved, or what preceded the shooting. The facts documented by the investigating agency are limited to the call type, location, discovered injuries, and outcome for the victim.

The case is under investigation by CMPD homicide detectives. Officials asked anyone with information to contact homicide detectives at 704‑432‑TIPS and noted anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 704‑334‑1600. No further case status, charges, or evidentiary findings have been publicly documented by investigators.
