E-bike battery suspected in hotel room blaze; sprinkler system contained smoke at InTown Suites in Orange County

Fire crews responded early Monday morning to a reported smoke condition inside a hotel room at an InTown Suites near University Boulevard and Rouse Road in Orange County. The building’s in-room sprinkler system activated after someone reported smoke to authorities at about 6:13 a.m. When Orange County Fire Rescue personnel arrived they did not find an active fire, and crews assessed the room and building for remaining hazards.

Orange County Fire Rescue and hotel staff handled initial scene actions; the American Red Cross was requested to assist about 12 people who were affected by the incident. The State Fire Marshal has been notified and a formal investigation is underway to determine the origin and cause.

Fire officials said the incident appears to involve an e-bike battery, but that conclusion remains part of an ongoing probe. At this time, reported information indicates smoke and sprinkler activation rather than an observable fire when responders arrived; allegations about the battery causing the event are Agency‑reported and have not yet been confirmed by the completing investigation.

The current status: investigators from the State Fire Marshal and local fire personnel are involved and the scene has been evaluated by Orange County Fire Rescue. No further verified outcome, injuries, or property-loss determinations have been documented in the available report.
