A two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 17th Avenue South and South Columbia Road in Grand Forks resulted in an arrest for driving under the influence, authorities say. Grand Forks Police Department officers were dispatched to the scene at about 1:42 p.m. and found both vehicles with disabling damage — a 2013 Toyota Scion in the roadway and a 2021 GMC Sierra near the intersection.

Police say the Sierra was turning north onto South Columbia Road from 17th Avenue South when it was struck by the Scion, which was traveling south through a red light. The driver of the Scion was transported from the scene by Altru Ambulance; the driver of the Sierra suffered minor injuries and was not taken to the hospital.

The Grand Forks Police Department alleges the Scion driver ran the red light and arrested that driver on a charge of driving under the influence. The Scion driver was also cited for disregarding a traffic signal. Grand Forks officers and investigators worked on scene with the Grand Forks Fire Department and Altru Paramedics, who assisted at the crash site.

At this time the documented actions are limited to the on-scene response, the arrest and the citations issued by police. Investigative and legal processes that would determine guilt or sentencing were not reported in the agency release cited here.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
