Doña Ana County officials lifted the last evacuation order after heavy rain and flooding affected multiple communities in the county. County emergency management reported that evacuation orders for several northwestern communities were lifted as floodwaters receded and officials determined major flooding risk had subsided.

Chronology: Monday’s rainfall produced widespread flooding across parts of Doña Ana County. County officials said evacuation orders for Salem, Hatch, Garfield and Placitas in the northwestern parts of the county were lifted Monday night, and the final order for Rincon was lifted Monday morning. The county also reported at least one water rescue during the morning of the event.

Agency action and warnings: Doña Ana County and local emergency management evaluated conditions before allowing residents to return and advised caution because localized flooding, debris, roadway damage and other hazards can remain. The county encouraged monitoring official Doña Ana County and local emergency management updates for changing conditions.

Current status: All evacuation orders referenced in the county statement have been lifted, but officials continue to warn of residual hazards in affected areas. The county also directed people wishing to donate to recovery efforts to the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico’s Greatest Need Impact Fund via its online portal.
