Chicago police reported at least one person died and nine others injured in multiple shootings across the city over the weekend. The first shooting of the weekend occurred on Friday around 7 p.m., when a 26-year-old man standing near his vehicle by South Cottage Grove Avenue was shot after a black sedan approached; he was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Detectives described the suspects as two unknown occupants of the sedan who fled the scene.

Later Friday around 11 p.m., a 26-year-old man walking near West 45th Street suffered graze wounds after an encounter with a group; he self-transported to Mt. Sinai in good condition. Between 5 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday, CPD listed additional shootings across Chicago that wounded people aged 1 to 39, including a 1-year-old girl taken to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition.

Responding officers took a person of interest into custody at the Mozart Street scene and another individual was detained for allegedly trying to conceal a firearm, which police said was recovered. CPD said investigations remain ongoing for the multiple shooting incidents, with victims treated at several area hospitals.
