Charlotte man arrested after northwest Charlotte shooting died 4-year-old, police say

A shooting on Grassy Patch Lane in northwest Charlotte left a 4-year-old boy dead on the morning of Sept. 20, police say. Authorities report gunfire struck multiple homes during the incident; an adult woman in a neighboring residence was also shot and injured, according to the police account.

Charlotte police say the sequence began around 3 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, when officers responded to multiple struck homes on Grassy Patch Lane. Investigators describe multiple “unknown suspects” as being involved in the shooting; police had not identified those suspects at the time the arrest was announced.

On Sept. 29, police arrested a 22-year-old Charlotte man, Terrance Jackson Jr., and charged him with accessory after the fact to murder. An arrest warrant cited allegations that Jackson assisted a person evade arrest and helped in the sale of a stolen vehicle that was used during the shooting. Those allegations are from the warrant and police documents; they have not been proven in court.

The case remains under active investigation by Charlotte police. The department reported the arrest and the charges and noted multiple unknown suspects in the shooting; officials have not released further identifications or an investigative timeline for additional actions.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
