Manatee School for the Arts in Bradenton was placed on lockdown after school officials reported a student allegedly made a threatening comment on social media. School leaders say the lockdown occurred Tuesday and that students alerted staff to the comment, prompting the response.

According to the school, staff located the student on campus and local police took the student into custody. The school removed the student from campus and notified families. School officials described their actions as taken "out of an abundance of caution" and credited students with reporting the threat as part of the school’s safety protocols.

The information released by the school clarifies that the allegation is based on a social-media post; the school did not provide additional details about the content of the post or any intended target. The school cited Florida public-records and privacy laws, including Section 1002.22 of the Florida Statutes and FERPA, in declining to release further information about the student or the ongoing investigation.

At the time of the report, the documented status is that the student was located, taken into custody by local police, and removed from campus. The school urged families to monitor official messages during safety incidents and to keep roads and the campus clear for first responders.
