A standoff in Archer ended peacefully Sunday evening after the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office Negotiations Response Team convinced a woman to surrender, officials say. Deputies responded after a report that an elderly woman had struck another person and threatened to cause death them while allegedly armed with a knife.

According to the agency, the subject — identified in reports as 74-year-old Cynthia Lee — held up in a shed after learning deputies intended to arrest her. Negotiators engaged with Lee for more than two hours before she agreed to come out. Body-camera or scene video released by the department includes the negotiator saying, “Miss Cyndy, it’s Rachel. Come out to us. I can help you,” and the woman responding, “I’m coming out.”

Sheriff’s officials allege the woman was armed with a knife and say she told deputies she injured herself with the knife. Those allegations and the reported assault and threats are attributed to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office; public reporting describes the initial call as involving an elderly person hitting another person and threatening to cause death them while armed.

The case closed at scene with a peaceful surrender after negotiations; sheriff’s officials reported the outcome as deputies convincing Lee to surrender. No additional case status, charges filed, medical details, or court outcomes were provided in the agency’s account.
