Apopka man arrested after shots fired into occupied home on Ponkan Road

Orange County deputies say a 19-year-old man was arrested after shots were fired into an occupied residence on Ponkan Road in Apopka. Deputies responded around 9:35 p.m. on Sept. 28 to a report of a shooting into an occupied dwelling, according to the arrest report.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video that allegedly showed a dark-colored Ford F-150 drive past the residence as two gunshots were fired from the vehicle. Using investigative leads and license plate reader technology, deputies identified a gray Ford F-150 as the suspect vehicle and later located that truck parked at a home on Bertson Court.

Deputies detained and questioned the vehicle’s occupants. The driver told investigators he had been driving that evening and said Gerardo Cepedaflores, 19, asked him to drive down Ponkan Road to look at a residence. The driver told deputies Cepedaflores fired the shots from the passenger side and that he did not know Cepedaflores intended to open fire. Deputies subsequently took Cepedaflores into custody for questioning.

Cepedaflores was charged by investigators with shooting from a vehicle, shooting into an occupied dwelling and discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person. He was booked into jail without incident. The Orange County Sheriff’s Office lists the investigation as ongoing.

All individuals accused of a crime are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
